FOOD IS MEDICINE

Buddha Eats was born from a blend of many passions: health, good food, a love of the outdoors, and building a sustainable future for us and our planet.

Our founder and head chef spends half her time working as a doctor in our local NHS hospital and for NHS England on sustainability and staff wellness. With a firm belief that ‘we are what we eat’ is not just a saying, she recognises that while our health and social systems can treat disease, they often fall short in keeping us healthy.

At Buddha Eats, we aim to fill this gap by providing delicious, nutritious meals that promote long-term health and keep us active and feeling great in our bodies for as long as possible.

UPCYCLED & REiMAGINED

Step inside our foodtruck, and you’ll immediately notice the charm of our upcycled vintage Richardson 2000 trailer. Together with KarmaKarpentry, we crafted our kitchen using upcycled and reclaimed materials.
Embracing the essence of sustainability, all original fixtures and fittings have been artfully repurposed.

HARNESSING THE ENERGY OF THE SUN

At Buddha Eats, we believe in harnessing the power of the sun to minimize our impact on the environment. With the support of Devon County Council’s business grant scheme, we are fortunate to have a solar setup that powers all our electrical appliances sustainably. By using renewable energy, we aim to protect our natural resources and promote a healthy, vibrant planet for future generations.

ZERO WASTE

At Buddha Eats, we are committed to a zero-waste philosophy, ensuring that nothing goes to waste. We batch compost all our food scraps and compostable Vegware packaging using our onsite HOTBIN MEGA composter, transforming it into nutrient-rich compost. By giving back to the earth that sustains us, we enhance soil quality, ensuring it can provide nutritious food for future generations.

A SYMPHONY OF FLAVOURS, CURATED FOR OPTIMUM HEALTH

At Buddha Eats, we passionately believe in the potential of plant-based cuisine to create a positive impact on both our planet and our well-being. Embracing the principles of the EAT-Lancet planetary health diet, we have crafted a menu that not only delights the taste buds but also contributes to a sustainable future.
By shifting towards a predominantly whole-food plant-based diet, we recognise that we can significantly reduce our ecological footprint and foster better health outcomes by curbing chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancers.

As individuals, we can play a crucial role in promoting a healthier planet, and it starts with the choices we make on our plates.

Supporting Local Suppliers

We take great pride in supporting local businesses that share our values and commitment to sustainability.

By partnering with Amary Farm Organics, Riverford Organic Farms, Komunitea Kombucha, Atlantic Fungi Co-op and Rupert’s Bakehouse,  we ensure the highest nutritional value for our customers.

These collaborations not only contribute to the regeneration of soils and the well-being of farming communities but also allows us to be confident in what goes into our dishes and where it comes from.

The quality and sustainability of our produce are top priorities, as we strive to create a harmonious relationship between our food and the land it comes from. Together, we work as a community to promote health, sustainability, and a vibrant local economy.

Recipe Creation: Nourishing Immunity and Seasonal Diversity

Our recipes are thoughtfully curated by Dr. Philippa Hardy, a practising doctor with a special interest in sustainability & plant-based nutrition.

With a focus on preventative healthcare, our dishes feature a wide array of seasonally diverse, immune-boosting ingredients. By aiming to include at least 30 different plant foods each week, we provide our customers with a vibrant spectrum of nutrients that support optimal health.

All our ingredients are chosen for their anti-inflammatory properties, promoting wellness from within.

Fermented Foods and Drinks: Fostering Gut Microbiome Diversity

We understand the significant impact that fermented foods can have on gut health and overall well-being. Introducing a delightful array of fermented foods into our menu, we strive to enhance gut microbiome diversity, leading to positive effects on mood, energy levels, skin, hair health, and digestive functions.

Three notable health benefits of fermented foods include improved digestion, increased nutrient absorption, and bolstered immune system support.

 ORGANIC SUPERFOODS

MACA

Maca powder is made from a naturally very sweet root vegetable resembling a turnip which is naturally processed into a powder. From the Peruvian Andes, it has many medicinal properties including improving mood and energy, relieving symptoms of menopause and increasing libido & fertility.

BAOBAB

Baobab has more calcium than milk and more potassium than a banana. Originating from the impressive baobab tree native to Africa and Australasia, Baobab can help to regulate blood sugar due to it’s high fibre content, preventing spikes and aiding digestion. Baobab is full of antioxidants too, reducing inflammation

MORINGA

Ground moringa leaves are the perfect addition to boost your energy levels. Native to Northern India, moringa is often used in traditional medicine for its health properties, it is a good source of iron, vitamin C, B vitamins and chlorogenic acid (also found in coffee), to help regulate blood sugar.

SPIRULINA

Spirulina is an algae, fully loaded with protein, containing all the essential amino-acids to build strength and muscle mass. It is packed full of vitamins, minerals & healthy fats and it is low carb to boot! It is a powerful antioxidant, reducing damage leading to chronic diseases and cancers and it is great for the environment!

ASHWAGANDHA

Ashwagandha, known as Indian ginseng powder is an extremely healthy medicinal herb, traditionally used to reduce stress and anxiety. Scientific research has linked it to improved athletic performance and better sleep! This small Indian shrub can also improve concentration, memory, reaction time and cognitive performance.

WHEATGRASS

This European superfood is high in protein, fatty acids and live enzymes. Derived from the common wheat plant, wheatgrass is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, E in addition to iron, glutathione, magnesium and calcium. It fights free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation leading to chronic disease & cancer.
